"Fodboldfjolset" (The Soccer Fool) is a flash game in the genre of "News-games" - small games that raise awareness about an issue or a product and are published due to a current event.
"Fodboldfjolset" is an example of viral marketing - in other words, the idea of using existing social networks to spread a message in a self-replicating process.
The customer was ourselves.
The purpose was to raise awareness of KathArt Interactive in general and more specifically to get some of the major consumers of news games made aware of us.
Specifically then, we would like to make some games for the national radio and television, but found it difficult to get the right people made aware of us.
The game was introduced two days after the incident in the football stadium, where a spectator attacked a judge.
Four days after we had sent the first link to the media, friends and acquaintances, the status was:
- More than 250,000 unique users had tried the game.
- The game was among others mentioned in Ekstra Bladet, Afton Bladet, Forza, JP, Berlingske, BT, Tipsbladet, Børsen, TV2, TV2 Radio, Olé, Sport.no, Computer World, Metro Express, Dailyrush, Indkast.dk, Sporten Kort, Politiken , MrX, Flash Forum, 20 Minutos, Dedeporte, Marca.com, MD.se, Sportsbladet and a sea of weblogs and forums.
- Over 6,000 unique users had clicked on to kathart.dk.
One of the 6000 was the games editor of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, DR - Danmarks Radio, who had seen the game online and was looking for a company to devise and develop precisely these types of games to dr.dk (the website of the national television).
In the weeks after the introduction contracts were landed with among others DR and Danske Spil, and several new buyers of games in the news-gaming-genre called us.
